How the Dolder Grand Hotel modernised its spa technology - during ongoing operations

Over 4,000 square metres of spa, 13 pools with indoor pools, whirlpools and cold water pools: The wellness landscape at the Dolder Grand in Zurich is one of the most exclusive in Switzerland. What guests enjoy is crystal-clear water at the perfect temperature. What they don't see: a total of 14 pools, 13 of which are accessible to guests, distributed across 5 circuits that ensure that the chlorine, pH, redox and temperature are correct around the clock - reliably safeguarded by a combination of ozone, UV and chlorine.

The challenge: modernising without interrupting the luxury

After years of continuous operation, the measurement and control technology was due for comprehensive modernisation. The goal: up-to-date technology, long-term availability, high reliability. The condition: not a single day of downtime. Because at the Dolder Grand, downtime is not an option - guests expect perfect water quality at all times.

A task that requires technical expertise and precise planning at a high level.

At a glance:

  • Customer: Dolder Hotel AG, Zurich
  • Application: Premium spa with over 4,000 m2 of floor space
  • Challenge: Modernisation during ongoing five-star operation
  • Solution: Gradual changeover to DULCOMARIN 3, Modular BAMa sensor bypass valve
  • Result: Future-proof technology, zero business interruption, full investment protection

The solution: Step-by-step modernisation with ProMinent

Together with ProMinent, a concept was developed that brings the system up to date pool by pool - while spa operations continue uninterrupted.

Phase 1: Conversion of one basin and the backwash basin to the DULCOMARIN 3 measuring and control system. The other pools will continue to work in parallel with the existing technology.

In the following years: Successive modernisation of all other basins. In this way, the investment is protected and the system is continuously brought up to date.

As part of the modernisation, all sensors for chlorine, pH and redox were also renewed and the flow fittings replaced - including the Modular BAMa sensor bypass fitting. The result: not only modern control technology, but also improved measurement quality overall.

Customer statement:

"I really appreciate our 10-year collaboration, especially because I've been able to count on the same contact person the whole time. The support by e-mail and telephone is problem-free. Information, feedback and material deliveries are always prompt. I find the service technicians to be very competent.
As I haven't had any significant failures in all these years and the systems impress with their precise dosing, high level of user-friendliness and intuitive menu navigation, I'm looking forward to continuing our partnership."

You can recognise first-class technology by the fact that you don't notice it.
